WELCOME

“ALL HANDS ON DECK”

Greetings,

I would like to officially welcome you to the 2015-16 school year at Highland Avenue! I am privileged to have the opportunity to return as principal of this great institution of teaching and learning. I must express how honored I am to work with such a dynamic, energetic, loyal, and dedicated group of stakeholders on our pursuit to academic excellence. Last year was a very successful one as we, The Highland Avenue School Team, established collaborative relationships, developed strategic plans for academic achievement, and enhanced current successful practices. As the instructional leader, I am committed to ensuring that each building-level stakeholder embraces the school’s vision and mission, therefore, in collaboration with the building leadership team, I have employed new highly-qualified, compassionate, and committed teachers who possess the energy and knowledge to carry out the mission of the school. I am confident that “ALL HANDS ARE ON DECK”!

Team HAS teachers and specialists have been preparing for the full implementation of our College and Career Ready Standards. Their lesson plans will be aligned to a rigorous standards-based curriculum that will assist us in our endeavors of preparing our students for college, career, and beyond. The teachers have attended several professional trainings and are prepared to provide quality and meaningful instruction to all of the students. Other staff members have been working diligently to prepare our campus and classrooms for the start of the new school year. All we await for now is the arrival of our Eagles!

When addressing the needs of every learner, it is essential that we provide effective and appropriate support. The administrative team, counselor, teachers, specialists, and support staff are here to meet your needs and support you in your efforts. We pledge to provide timely feedback to parents and students by avenue of newsletters, signed-papers, mid-quarter progress reports, report cards, phone calls, meeting notices, and flyers just to name a few. It is our desire to maintain frequent and positive lines of communication. That’s right, we plan to keep you “IN THE KNOW”.

In an effort to provide a safe and nurturing environment conducive to the teaching and learning process, we have assembled The Eagle, our student handbook, which aligns with the Montgomery Public School’s Code of Conduct. The rules and regulations contained in the handbook are in effect and will govern the behavior and procedures regarding students while on school grounds during school hours, off campus during school hours, and at school-sponsored functions. When you receive this document, please take the time to read this valuable resource in its entirety. I encourage you to familiarize yourself and your child(ren) with the information, paying close attention to the following sections: Student Conduct, Arrival and Dismissal Procedures, and Student Attendance.

I pledge to be accountable and exercise leadership strategies that support the correlation between strategic planning, effective communication, innovative teaching, and student achievement. I thank you in advance for your partnership and look forward to meeting each of you. Welcome to Highland Avenue, where “ALL HANDS ARE ON DECK”!
